The Secret That No-one is teaching
Trevor here, I hope you’re well.
Welcome to my Action Today Sunday Supplement.
I’m sure you’ve noticed online these days that there is no shortage of product launches, tips and tricks and secret hacks that are all supposed to provide you with a way to beat the system.
All promising to show you a way to get to the money without any of the work or investment that all businesses actually need.
In many ways it seems to me like these so-called shortcuts are suggesting to people that you can treat making money online as a hobby, implement some of these secret hacks, and make a fortune.
You only have to do a little bit of digging to see that the people promoting these secret hacks work much harder than they would have you believe and treat what they are doing like a business – not a hobby.
In my experience, once you make that decision that this is a business and you are going to run it like a business, everything changes.
And the first thing that every business does is create a business plan.
Now before you click away thinking that this is going to be boring and of no interest stick with me.
Again, in my experience, getting organized really is a secret that no-one is teaching but is key to success at anything.
This is especially true when you are starting out with your online business and have very limited time to devote to it.
Most people start out with their online business as a ‘side hustle’ (as it’s now called) and have to fit it in around work, family and other commitments.
When the time you have available is short, it’s very important to be really well organized.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not always as organized as I should be. When you have more time to spend on your business, as I do now, you tend to fall into the trap of spreading the work out to fit the time you have.
Just recently, while tidying up my office, I came across a daily schedule that I used to work to religiously but have let slip. I now have it pasted on my wall and work to it everyday.
It’s a system that I learned from Jimmy D Brown many years ago but is still as relevant today as it ever was.
Jimmy is one of the pioneers of marketing online and still generating a good online income all these years later.
Jimmy now runs a very comprehensive training resource at earncome.com
From his training I created my own daily schedule that covered all of the basic things we need to do in our businesses.
I work in 40 minute chunks, something I’ve mentioned before in these supplements, but back when I started with this I followed Jimmy’s advice and worked in 45 minute chunks.
I split the day up into 2 lots of 4 main activities. There were 4 slots in the morning and 4 more in the afternoon (if I had a full day to devote to my business).
The main activities that we need to spend time on in our businesses are;
- Product/offer creation
- List building/list marketing activities
- Traffic Generation
- Support/Misc tasks
So working from that list I created a schedule starting at 8.00am everyday Monday through Thursday.
My schedule looked like this;
8.00 – 8.45 Product/Offer development
8.45 – 9.00 Break
9.00 – 9.45 List building/List Marketing
9.45 – 10.00 Break
10.00 – 10.45 Traffic Generation
10.45 – 11.00 Break
11.00 – 11.45 Support/Small tasks/Misc activities
11.45 – 2.00 Lunch break
That schedule covered a half day and could then be repeated in the afternoon if I had a whole day available to work on my business.
Back when I started with this schedule, I didn’t have full days available so I did just as much as I could.
So, for example, if you only have an hour available you can split the activities up across several days.
You could do your product development on Monday, list building on Tuesday etc.
Having a firm laid-out plan like this removes one of the biggest obstacles to success.
Have you ever sat down at your computer to work on your business and wondered what you should be doing?
Did it take up most of the time you had available to decide what to do and then you were left with little time to do it?
Your plan will remove this. Every time you sit down at your computer to work you’ll know exactly what you need to be doing.
Try it out and let me know how you get on.
As always if you have any questions or comments feel free to get in touch at any time.
Have a GREAT Sunday,
Until next time,
Kindest Regards,
Trevor
