Specially for Newbies
Before I get into the content of this edition, I want to extend my sincere condolences and thoughts for all of my subscribers that have been affected by the hurricane that has devastated the east coast this last week. So many people have lost everything, their homes and possessions and their whole world has been turned upside down. I sincerely hope life can get back to something that is at least a bit like normal as quickly as possible, although I know that for some people life will never be the same again.
Living in the UK, I only know what I’ve seen on our news channels and cannot feel the devastation personally. Having been flooded myself though I know how terrible that felt but I didn’t lose my home. My thoughts are with you all.

Specially For Newbies
I sign up to webinars from time to time and was on a webinar this week with Chuck Mullaney where he was opening up his new email mailing system to a few beta testers. The content of the webinar isn’t what I want to talk about today though. What I do want to talk about is something that came out right at the start of the webinar.
Just so that he knew what level to pitch his presentation at, Chuck asked for those on the call to signify in the chat box whether they were new to online marketing, not so new but not making any money or not so new and making some money.
I was interested, and a little surprised if I’m honest, to see that the majority, like 9 out of 10 people on the call, were either complete newbies or not quite newbies but making no money. I hear all of the time about how many people are coming online everyday but nevertheless I was still surprised that such a high percentage of people on the call and wanting to be beta testers were complete newbies.
That got me thinking that by the law of averages you are probably either a complete newbie too or one of the not quite a newbie but making no money yet group. And that being the case I should be focusing my newsletters on helping newbies in every way I can.
One of the most important things that we all want when we’re starting something new is a place where we can ask questions without feeling uncomfortable about being a novice amongst lots of very experienced people. Some time ago Jerry Williamson realized that there was a need for just such a place so he created The Newbie Swamp. This is a free to join private Facebook group where you are able to ask any question you want and get the answer from the other people in the group.
I got an email from Jerry recently asking us to let everyone know that there is an open invite for more newbies to join. He has created a video explaining all about the group on You Tube;
This is a lively group that is growing into a very useful resource.

31 Days to Millionaire Marketing Miracles
Back in 2007 I met Tracy Repchuck at a seminar. She had just become an Amazon best seller with hew new book “31 Days to Millionaire Marketing Miracles”. At the time Tracy was relatively new to online marketing. Her book charted the course of her journey over the first 30 days online. She recorded in a journal what she did everyday and compiled her journal into a book.
Since then Tracy has gone on to become a very success online marketer traveling the world doing speaking events and building her following. Tracy just emailed me to say that she has become Amazon bestseller for the second time with her 2013 updated version of the book.
In the book she again provides 31 daily sets of activities that anyone can follow to go from being a complete newbie to making some money online in just one month. I have her original book and was so impressed with the way that she explains things that I bought the updated version to catch up on how she is doing things now.
She breaks the book down into 7 chapters. Each chapter has several days of activity to accomplish the task of the chapter. It’s very easy to follow. Chapter 1 is entitled ‘Quantum Leap Thinking’ and is about getting off on the right foot. She explains the #1 mistake to avoid that most internet marketing newbies make that makes the difference between success and failure.
What is it? Treat yourself to the book to avoid making this mistake and follow her 31 day action plan to success.
List Building
You’ve probably heard that the money is in the list until you’re sick of hearing it. Well, I’m going to repeat it again. What a lot of people don’t realize is that ALL of the Gurus online, the six and seven figure a year marketers, make over 90% of that money from their lists. Irrespective of whether it comes from one of those mega launches, their webinars or live speaking events people get to know about them because they are on someone’s list.
There’s so much temptation these days to keep buying one shiny object after another that will make you sales that building a list get’s pushed aside. There is no activity more important than building a list. The bulk of your effort should be directed at list building activities.
There’s an obsession with traffic these days. Most of the WSO’s and other product offers we get are about how to increase traffic. The implication is that without traffic you can forget being successful online. The truth is that most of the people selling these products are not concerned about driving traffic because they are marketing to their list, they are marketing to you – on their list.
If you’re thinking, great but you need traffic to build your list in the first place don’t you? Yes you’re right but you don’t need yet another ebook about the latest traffic technique to do it. The most reliable way to build a list is to run solo ads that drive traffic to a squeeze page.
Can’t afford to buy solo ads? If you’re buying ebooks every month – you can. Here’s a little exercise I recommend you do to prove that you can.
Total up everything you spent last month on WSO’s, ebooks etc. Don’t include hosting or Autoresponder fees, those are fixed costs that you need to have to run your business. I mean everything else that you spent you money on.
Next do the same thing for the month before and the month before that. Add the three figures together and divide by 3 to get an average. That figure there is the amount of money you have available to spend on a solo ad each month to drive visitors to your squeeze page to build your list.
If you don’t have a free report or other free gift to give to people when they sign up to your list just do a Google search for Free Internet Marketing Reports and check through the results. I just found this report here (http://startupinternetmarketing.com/free/30days.pdf) on the second page of my results. You have to keep the report intact which will give the reader links to the report author’s offers but you will still build your list and it will be good enough until you can get your own freebie together.
Create a WordPress website, put up a squeeze page (copy someone else’s layout and add your own text) and put your optin form on it and start sending your solo ad visitors to it. If you need help with any of this post a reply to this post and I’ll get back to you.
In the meantime take a minute to check out Tracy Repchuck’s latest version of her book at the link below.
